T's not the winds of heaven
that trample down the pines
or blows in easy flow along the sea
but earthly winds blowing from the sea
plus water doesn't flow from smitten rock
as scientist know from their geology
and gravity is the cause of seaward flow
meteorologist know why the tempests blow
these are things that we now know
Why seek to know why to understand
ignorance is for those who do not care
no honest toil is vain the searcher knows
that if all science were formulated prayer
the monks the priest the ministers the pope
would be mathematicians engineers of hope
and all their prayers would not get us far
to propel our rockets to the nearest star
and this is what I believe I know
