High I climbed
by the breaking sea
that roared upon crags below
high I climbed
seeking the skulls
of men for ornaments
I found a sepulcher
a huge hewn rock
and not knowing why
I turned and sought
the skulls of other men
I found two skeletons
within a cave of death
and claimed their heads
my own for use
as ornaments
I set
these smiling skulls
upon two rocks to bleach
and often I wonder
if they are still
grinning there
